About Us

Dr. K.Y Rajpure received his B.Sc. degree in 1992 and M.Sc. degree (Solid State Physics) in 1994 from Shivaji University, Kolhapur (India). He stood first in the university merit list in both these exams and had been awarded for this. He received his Ph.D degree in Physics from Shivaji University in 2000. He has an experience in specialized research and development (R&D) over 25 years in the area of material science. He has made an outstanding contribution to the field of science and technology.

He is currently working as a Professor in Physics at Shivaji University (since Aug 2014). His wide spectrum of research includes fabrication of novel nanoscale materials for transparent conducting oxides, solar cells, UV detectors, gas sensors, memristors and photo-catalysis. His original research findings have been published through more than 200 peer-reviewed journal papers having average impact factor 3. He has attained two Indian patents and several invention disclosures. His papers have received 6145 (Google Scholar, till 21-08-2018) worldwide citations having an h-index 45 and i-10 index of 141. Apart, there are about 174 paper presentations at national and international conferences/seminars and also has 6 book chapters and 5 books to his credit. He has successfully completed 5 major scientific research projects funded by DRDO, UGC, CSIR, and DST. He has successfully produced 14 Ph.Ds and 2 M.phil. Currently 5 students are working under his guidance. He has received an International recognition for contributing to x-ray diffraction patterns in ICDD as powder diffraction files. For significant contribution in the field of Physical Sciences, he is been elected fellow of Maharashtra Academy of Sciences.

He is member of board of studies of Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Vivekanand College, Kolhapur and DKTE Institute, Ichalkaranji. He is member of Research and Recognition committee of Savitribai Phule Pune University. He is member of Local Inquiry Committee (affiliation), Technical committee and Purchase committee of Shivaji University. He has been Vice-Chancellor nominee for selection committees of teachers and Principal.

He is Life member, of Materials Research Society of India (MRSI), Semiconductor Society of India (SSI), Indian Physics Association (IPA), Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), Marathi Vidnyan Parishad and the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA).

He was instrumental in taking initiaves for setting up of PIFC (Physics Instrumentation Facility Centre). University authorities have offered an opportunity to him to work as head of the USIC (University Science Instrumentation Centre) and CFC (Common Facility Centre). He is coordinator of the Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility (SAIF) centre of Shivaji University and working as managing editor of journal of Shivaji University (Science and Technology).

His research work is a continuation of his Ph.D degree work dedicated to the investigation of new semiconductor thin film for applications in devices. Severe efforts are being done to develop chalcogenide semiconductor thin films by chemical methods for their possible use in PEC solar cells and rechargeable storage cells. He has gained a better grasp over the silent features of thin films semiconductor science and (photo) electrochemical solar cells. He has always carried out a useful research work for scientific community working in this field.

He is responsible for developing a new, reliable, and unique technique for optimization of preparative parameters of the photoactive semiconducting electrode by PEC method in thin films technology. His current research on TCO thin films is concentrated on synthesizing superior figure of merit thin films, and also in the production of p-type and large area TCO thin films for solar cells and gas sensors. He has acquired a technicality for the preparation high figure of merit FTO and ITO coated glasses on large area using economical spray technique. His attained expertise is too much useful for the industry to build up a pilot plant for the production of large area transparent conducting glasses.

A rapid study of removal of toxins present in waste water, drinking water, using photo catalysts prepared by economic methods is in progress. He has developed the cheaper ZnO based photoelectrode for photocatalysis and fast response visible blind UV photoconductive detector. At present he is mainly devoted to efficient testing of layered and oxide composite based photoelectodes in photoelectrocatalysis.
